Surrender Policy
We understand that sometimes situations come up in life where a pet needs to be rehomed. Please do not bring the pet into the shelter when you come to surrender an animal.
The forms can be downloaded below and filled out or you can stop at the shelter to pick up the form. When you enter the shelter, we will let you know if we currently have space available in the shelter or at a foster home. You must bring a valid driver’s license to confirm you are a resident of Buchanan or Fayette Counties. If no space is available, you will be put on a waiting list until we have an opening.
Please fill out the intake form as accurately as possible so we know of any behavioral or medical problems. This will be important in finding the right placement for the pet. Also bring all medical records.
We have a surrender fee of $30.00 for dogs and cats to cover initial medical testing and expenses.
We are a no-kill shelter, which means no pet will be humanely euthanized if our veterinary advisory board determines it has a quality of life. The only exception will be if an animal has a contagious or fatal disease which cannot be reversed.
